    Aussie driving test

Hi folks, this is my first time I've used this forum so please excuse any errors and mistakes. It's the intention of my wife and I to follow my daughter to the Gold Coast in about six months time, my problem being that my wife doesn't drive....yet! Therefore does anyone have any comments if it would be better/easier passing her test here in the UK or do you feel that it's much easier/harder to pass the test in Australia, she's quite a good driver, just doesn't brim with confidence under test conditions. Any comments would be appreciated.

    Hi,

What a question - are Aussie drivers any better - i would suggest not. (Strike me down). I don't know about the driving standards, however Uk driving liscences are easy to transfer to Australia. All you do is fill in the right forum, pay the fee and you'll be right.

    Welcome to the forum!

I would possibly have a go at passing before you leave, at least you will be on familiar territory whilst learning. Lots of Luck it wont be easy being car-less over here, lol, especially if your as lazy as me and hate walking, lol.

    Hi

I would suggest your wife try and get her license in the UK. We are in Sydney and learners are required to do 160 hours, supervised and have to have their learners permit for at least a year. My son turned 17 in June 2007 and we were leaving to return to live in OZ in Oct. 2007, he managed to pass his test at 2nd sitting the week before we left. This let him drive here on a red P plate, without sitting a NSW test. Here is a link for Queensland, as I think each state is different

    Good luck with everything

Many thanks for your response, it looks like a similar nightmare out in Oz as it is here in the UK therefore I think I'll take you advise and urge her the sit her test here. Many thanks again.
