Just reading this article http://www.news.com.au/business/work...ews-topstory-1
and It definitely rang true for me. I got my visa on the back of my trade background and worked as a bricky for a while until I got into the construction management side of it (what i was doing before i left UK) but after 6 months I couldn't wait to get back on the trowel. I was shocked after hearing (and believing) all the hype about the great aussie work / life balance that the truth was the opposite. Its normal practice to work well over your hours and not be rewarded and to complain was definitely an act of mutany. I remember asking someone in HR to book in some extra hours for travelling and expenses when I was flying into makay at silly o'clock and getting home past 11 at night and the whole room went silent. It was a bizarre experience.
I would never expect someone to work for nothing so why is it expected in Australia?
PS It probably happens in other countries too OK!
