The research, published in the medical journal The Lancet, found that each year worldwide, about 200 million people use illegal drugs.
Cannabis is the most favoured drug of choice, and Australia and New Zealand were found to share the highest rate of usage.

Australia and New Zealand also share the highest rate of usage of drugs such as speed and crystal meth, with 2.8 per cent of their populations having ingested, injected or inhaled them over a 12-month period.

I've been saying it for years. I never saw so much drug use in the work place as i did in Australia. The miners where the worst, I stayed in miners dongers a couple of times and nearly all of the workers where on speed so they could get as many shifts in before they fly out. Building sites too. Its not a recreational thing like it is in Europe its more like they are desperate to get in as many hours as they can.. As I say, never seen it as bad anywhere else and this proves me right.

I cant say Ive come across any drug use here in my own social/work circle but I never did in the UK either so I suppose its the places you go...people you meet. My best friends brother died of a heroin overdose though in the UK...a lot of people from the estate I grew up on were dealing....I dont see that here...maybe Im isolated from it because of where we live? Or maybe I just dont look for it! Frightening stats in any case....steer clear is my motto, I prefer more socially acceptable drugs such as the odd bottle of plonk. Far more civilised and no track marks!
