Ok this is one for our resident expert, how the hell do I know if these big buggers hanging around my garden are frogs or cane toadsThey have only just started to come back again, not sure why as we haven't been getting any rain. I love the green tree frogs though they are gorgeous and in wet season there are around 30 in the garden singing their little heads off

Its hard because I can spot a Cane Toad from a long distance but many frogs get killed by mistake. Generally a toad will be sitting bolt upright on the lawn or any open space whereas most frogs tend to sit horizontally on the ground. The easiest way to tell really is that the toads are warty and almost all frogs are very smooth. We have no native toads so there is no chance of confusion there. Even the way they hop is very different but comes with experience.
I will take some photos of them and see if you can identify them for me.
