Ive done a lot of snorkelling around Perth beaches , really great relaxing pastime.

Absolutely stunning mate, it sure is beautiful under the sea in tropical waters, i love scuba diving and i definately want to swim with a basking shark.

Get down to cornwall jim, loads of there..

It's beautiful down there and apparently Basking Sharks are being seen in record numbers.

Oh come on Aldo and Chris there is no way that diving in Cornwall can come close to the GBR. Here are a few photos

I'm not sure anyone was comparing to be honest, if you are in the UK and want to swim with a basking shark for instance then you can do it at home.
The Barrier Reef is a wonderful place but I think the OP was about Perth wasn't it ?

I agree what still living on the GBR is amazing but I would rate the Red Sea slightly more exiting and Malta / Gozo are also great dives. Its also not too far to the Caribbean and the florida keys.

My best dives in order would be:

Red sea (Thistlegorm wreck)
Key West (sharks)
Malta (wrecks)
Coral Sea (GBR)
Lundy Island (with the seals)
Lakeside Thurruck (kidding)
