Well you are lucky you can do it, I'm not permitted to dive, it is soooooo unfair. My eldest goes out a fair bit though.

That's a bummer, the freedom of scuba is a big part of the diving experience but TBH all (99% anyway) the good stuff on the GBR is in shallow water and and just as accessible with a snorkel, in fact just being to jump in and out of the water instantly is better IMO, also a lot of marine life are scared off by the scuba bubbles.
Another thing is you can distance yourself from the dive nerds with there nitrox and all the hi-vis torches bells and wistles hanging of them rattling on about how deep their last dive was and comparing dive computers. The sport does seem to attract a weird bunch.
