Because the presenters were actually liked?
If I ever see Richard Hammond walking around...I will hurt him. The little sh!t.

It was axed because it was rubbish, the presenters were crap and they just tried too hard. Top Gear is superb TV and whoever had the idea to try and make an Aussie version needs shooting.
Soon to be back in the undisputed NUMBER 1 country in the world.....ENGLAND.
I watched it a couple of times and thought it (the Aussie version) was cringe-worthy, the poor presenters tried their little hearts out to be cool but failed big time.
The problem was IMO the typical insular attitude of aussie TV makers, A good Car show HAS to be about Italian sports cars, German innovation, American Muscle cars and of course the great British backyard sports car industry. I suppose a slot could be allocated for the sportside uteThe aussies only like to make TV about Aussies witch is fair enough if you like cr4p.

Aussie Top Gear was pretty dire in comparrison to the UK version. I think alot of TV shows that are started up in different conutrys with different actors/presenters but following the same format never seem to be as good as the original,, Life On Mars was one that springs to mind.
UK Top Gear is a tough show to beat ,its been around way to long and is too popular for any other 'version' to catch on.
Cal x
Don't often watch either version, but the specials - Botswana, Bolivia etc were fantastic and so funny.
To be fair and balancedthe Brits have made some pretty poor imitations of US sitcoms and visa versa.
I don't do sitcoms though.
