    we need your comments

This is our first thread! We are very keen to move to oz with our 4 children but really don't know which state to go to. How do you choose? Considering adelaide, perth or brisbane. Does anyone have any useful tips or comments that can help us with our decision?? Thanks

Hi and welcome to Brits abroad.
Jobs may well play a factor in where to head for? what line of work would you be working in?

Heat is also something to bear in mind, Brisbane gets hotter than the other places you mention, personally we love it here and as long as you have air-con in the car and a pool close by you will be fine.

Choosing a state is hard but remember if you can move across the world you can move states if your not happy, many familys have done this and still settled well.

    Hope this helps a bit

we live i brissie suburb of middle park and have to say I love it here, came to be near my daughter and grandchildren, however my daughter has not settled real well, she finds it more expensive especialy in relation to the kids, with uniforms , books etc to buy each term. She earns a lot less than at home, Some schools better than others and when youngest was at kindy prior to prep that had to be paid for too. Its a lovely country and I would stay but if my daughter and hubby decide to go back we will too, our main reason beiing here as a support. We live in a complex and am truly thankful for that as when we first arrived we stayed in a house at Jindalee and have yet to have communication with any neighbours , so it really takes time and a lot of effort. I even met someone from u.k. but that did not come to anything for some reason , maybe cause am a scot. Good luck and hope yu can fulfil your dream.

    Hi John and Di

I'm new around here too, but not new to Australia. We live in Brisbane now and love it. I think it very much depends WHERE you live in Brisbane as to how hot it is. We are in the Bayside area and find it cooler her than where we were in Sydney - we hardly use our aircon now!!! Electricity bills have literally been cut in half for us.

Good luck with the move, are you planning on a reccie first?

Hi john&di, I've lived in Adelaide, Melbourne and Brissie of the three places personally I much preferred Brissie. Reasons being - Adelaide, although a nice city is more of a country town and feels a bit , climate is very dry and very hot in the summer and can be pretty cold in the winter. Melbourne is pretty much a big city with traffic and a more hectic lifestyle, the climate can be a bit mixed with sudden changes through out the day. Brissie felt more laid back and had more of an Australian feel to it (whatever that is), also didn't feel quite as cut off as Adelaide because there are more places both to the north and south towards Sydney, the climate can be pretty sticky and humid in the summer but very pleasant in the winter. Workwise would see Melbourne at the top with possibly Brissie next followed by Adelaide, depending on what you do of course. No doubt others on the forum might have different views and this is just abrief summary. Good luck

NSW is falling apart, economic woes, most people are heading to QLD, lots of construction jobs.

Many factories have closed in Melbourne. You may have to do a lot of casual work before getting a permanent position. You might want to consider crime as well.Melbourne doesn't feel anywhere near as safe as it used to be.It feels like there's a lot more violent crime these days. It's getting very congested here. Not enough housing to go around, public transport not coping. It is definitely beginning to get that rat race feel about it.We are considering moving from here, and top of our list was Brisbane.I can't speak for Adelaide though as I haven't been there.Mind you, I was impressed with Perth too, so who knows...
