Hi, I am new to the site and planning to move to Canada. I am using an agent, SIS Canada Consultants. Has anyone used them or know of anyone who has used them to move to Canada?
Thanks

Sorry pumkin but welcome to B-A.
Liz lives in Canada she could maybe help you.
Hi Andy,
Thank you...it would nice to hear if anyone has heard of them. Looking forward to a few replies hopefully.
Hi Pumpkin,
Personally, I know nothing about agents. I came here a very long time ago, when it was do - it- yourself . On another forum, I have noticed that some people have used them with mixed results -- some praised highly, others who believed they got nothing for the money spent.
I tried checking on SIS Canada consultants and was led to a page in the London Gazette -- Thurs. 2 July 2009. It read as follows:
SIS Canada (Consultants) Ltd.Company Number 04646692
Address of Registered Office: Cumbrian House, 84 Cumbrian Gardens, London NW2 1EL
Court HIGH COURT OF JUSTICE
Date of filing petition 7 May 2009
No. of matter 0013890 of 2009
Date of Winding - up Order 24 June 2009
Receiver 21 Bloomsbury Street
London WC1B 3SS
I have no knowledge of the law, but if this is the same company , it does not look good. . If I were to hazard a guess , it seems that the company is closed down , perhaps bankrupt. But as I say, I have no legal knowledge.
Try Googling the company name and see if you can find anything .
Sorry this is a negative post.
Re. wanting to come to Canada; do you have a University
degree or any skills in demand here?
With the recession thousands of jobs have been lost, so there are many Canadian citizens without a job. Unless you have a specialty in demand, or have a job offer, the situation is bleak.----- not impossible --- but bleak
That being the case, I personally would not hire any agent at this time. Try to do it yourself. If you can afford it come out for a holiday, check out the places you would like to live, bring copies of a resume, and perhaps try to talk to companies in which you are interested.
Sorry that is the best I can do.
But check the Co. ASAP
Best Wishes
Liz.
Re-checked using a different link. Found the company name in a list headed INSOLVENCY - COMPANY, and then directed to the London Gazette and to the information above.
So it looks as though the Co. is indeed bankrupt.
Sorry !
Liz

Hi Liz,
Thank you so much for the information..it has been very helpful. I did have a little nagging voice in my head. My husband is an AC Technician and his skill is on the NOC table. He has to get his qualifications assessed first and this is something that we can definitely do. We plan to come over for a holiday and check things out for ourselves and see how the land lies. We want to go to Alberta...have you been there?.there are quite a few jobs there in his field. I am a legal secretary but I am prepared to work in another field. I have family who live mainly in Toronto.
Again, thank you so much for the information it really has been an eye opener.

Hi Liz,
Please can you let me know which forums you checked...we would like to see some of the comments.
Thanks
Pumpkin
Sending you a PM
Hey Liz,
You are a true gem...thanks you for 2 PMs...needless to say my hubby is furious but better that we know now rather than later...they kept coming up excuses for not getting things done. We have taken the bull by the horns and started the process ourselves.
First step getting my hubby's qualifications assessed by the Alberta Apprenticeship & Industry Training people before he can start looking for jobs.
Will let you know how we get on.
PS...joined the other site and so much info....thanks again
Hi Pumpkin,
Glad to have been of help. Do keep us informed and don't forget us on BA
Good Luck
Liz
Hi Liz,
I certainly wont. I have asked on the BE forum if anyone is an AC Technician and has been through the process of having their qualifications assessed. My hubby has to send docs to the Albert Apprenticeship & Industry Training body for assessment in order to get a Qualification Certificate before he can start looking for jobs. Do you know anything about this body? It's really quite frustrating because we have wasted about 2 months with the consultants where they kept giving us excuses every week why the docs hadn't gone off. Alas, we have seen the light and will be sending them off ourselves tomorrow.
If you know of anyone who has been through this process or is working as an AC Technician, especially in Alberta, any advice/guidance would be much appreciated.
Pumpkin
