Thread: Any carpenters in Toronto?

originally from Birmingham now living in Spain i'm thinking of relocating the family to the Toronto area. Would appreciate any tradesmen getting in touch with helpful advice in this field. Have a family of three children and my wife. Looking to chat with any ex pat chippies about what to expect and job availability.

Hi Tony

We have been here from the UK for 18 months now and live south of Toronto but can see the Toronto Skyline over the lake. We know a self em chippie from UK out here so I will let you know what he says - are you into new build housing / renos or anything wood. By the way he is up to his eyeballs in work.

Hi Andy Thanks for the reply. I have been a chippie for almost 30 years having done my apprenticeship at Cadburys Bournville, we moved to Mallorca 10 years ago and have a small workshop where I am selfemployed and have done a wide variety carpentry over here.Iwould be interested in any info from your friend concerning the types of work and availibility

Hi Tony have been just reading your thread, my oh is in the construction industry he is a steel fixer and has also been doing the shuttering joinery for the last for years. Have you tried the site Emigrate 2, have a look on there in the Canada section hope that may help you. I was at Cadburys bournville last Wednesday with my school I work at it was very enjoyable the children loved it. Good luck.

I finally got to see my chippie mate out here and he has exported timber shoots out to Cadburys in Bristol which is strange because I have also done a shift or two there.

So he says site work is around $20 to 25 an hour if you know what your doing which you do. Self employment is the most popular and most site guys are self em. He is still busy and the cred crunch has not hit too bad for him but site work has slowed right down. Any change of mind or are you still thinking of coming to Canada
