    health insurance with job

Hi i was just wondering if anyone knows whether the health and dental insurance that goes with a job covers your children as well or just the person being employed. my husband has a job offer in halifax and he will be leaving next week and health insurance is offered with the job, we would just like to know if it will cover his dependants also.

    Hi Melwaite,

In the US, just like the UK, it's usually a good idea to find that out after the job offer has been made and before accepting the job. It goes along with things like holiday allowances and pensions etc.
I'm not sure how it works in Canada though.

    Anyone???

Given that employees have to take an employers health insurance if available, rather than remaining on a provincial (Govt. run) health insurance coverage. Employers who have a health insurance plan do have family coverage available (albeit at an additional cost).

Families where both adults are working and both employers offer health coverage can choose which they prefer (usually the one offering the better coverage) and opt out of the other.

Check the coverage documents carefully, all plans are definitely not equal.
