    newbie here hellooooo

Hi all, Im not an expat, but would like to be. We are looking at moving to Canada - BC. We are going next summer, to get a feel for the place. My hubby is a qualified flooring installer/carpet/vinyl/laminate fitter and we own our own business, but we are so disheartened with the long hours here and not much time to spend with the kids (we have 4!!!) Hoping Canada has work in the Construction Sector and Banking/Secretarial/IT Sector for me. Love to speak to anyone who has gone to Canada with children and settled there successfully.... X

    Hello Sheena

Hello Sheena, How long have you lived in Oz? Did you emigrate with children? Since deciding emigrating could be an option, I feel this is all I think about!!! We are trying to get lots of info together on the best way forward. It all feels a little crazy right now. We are going over to Canada next year to have a good look around. We are hiring a motorhome for a few weeks!!! he he. Me n Hubby along with our 4 kids (14,8,6,5) - yep its going to be mad!!!

Hi,, Yep, Ive never used the computer as much as I do at the moment!! We are going to Vancouver (3 nights in hotel first) then 14 nights in Motorhome, travelling to across to Calgary, final night there in hotel, before flying back. It will be mental!!!.
We originally have been looking at Oz for a few years, but decided that it felt just too far away, especially for anyone visiting us!! I would love to go to a country that has proper seasons ie. summer and a winter not just one long miserable drizzle all rolled into one like here. Ive a few friends who have gone to Canada and love it. But apart from that I have really no idea why Canada!!!! It will be a very big decision. We have our own business here in UK, but we are so disheartened, work very long hours and would like to spend more time at weekends with the kids doing outdoorsy type things and Canada appears to really advocate that. The only thing is it seems to take forever to gain a Visa... Did you or your OH get a job before you went to Oz or did you get one after you arrived.. Do you miss UK at all? Lovely to talk to everyone .

Wow Sheena, 14 weeks, I have never heard of anyone getting to Canada that quick!!! You can really tell that you love it there. Could I ask you something else (if you don't mind). My son is 13 at the moment, and will probably be around the 14/15 mark when we go. How did your eldest lad take to leaving all his mates etc. and starting again in a new country. My younger ones will be 8,6,5 so I would have thought they will probably adapt fairly quickly. What is a 457?? (sorry it seems I am fairly clueless regards all this)

Hi there, I am not an expat yet however we have started the long process!
I can tell you that we went from Vancouver through to Calgary this year for the stampede! It was amazing!
We went to Prince George and then all the way down the Rockies through Jasper and Banff.

You will have a great time

Hi mel we too are looking to move to BC if we can . My oh is in the construction industry aswell. We have a friend who lives over there, looking to find quickest route we can to get there. Hopefully!!!!! We too are fed up of Britain, ecspecially for the children. We also have a 13 year old, he says he would love to go, but has alot of friends here, so it does make you think how they will settle in and hopefully they will.

I must be a record breaker then...... I got to Canada 7 weeks to the day after getting my job offer in 1987! That included selling the house and packing up the furniture for shipment. Seems a bit of a blur now looking way back on it!

I was lucky as my wife (at the time) was a Canadian citizen, so I breezed through the application process as I had the job offer as well. The 7 weeks flew by with selling the house, finding the moving company, selling the car, selling the majority of my electronics, visiting the Canadian Embassy and the Quebec Consulate in London, arranging transport for the cats and just generally panicking. Didn't do much thinking... probably just as well!
