    Hi Kim and co,

Congratulations on the move! If you've got 4 kids into sports it shouldn't be too long before you start making friends! As for the driving test - I know here in the USA we had to re-do our licenses even though our UK ones mean we can drive and get insurance. The tests are a lot easier than in the UK though.

Bet you can't wait to go!

i live just outside exeter,in a village called Lympstone to be honest i am lucky to live in such an nice part of the country as were you, but the weather gets me down alway raining and dull, and whats the fun of having a beach and nice walks when you cant go out without a brolly, and also our children are all in their teens, and i find there is nothing for them to do outside their sports:no:
where abouts in cornwall did you live,i took the kids to st ives last year,it is a nice place i have also been to newq for a hen party that was an eye opener.lol

    Hi Kim,
I've been to Lympstone - I'm a teacher and visited the training centre for the Marines there. Lympstone is a beautiful place but I remember it was cold for the whole time I was there!

As Sheena said there will be ups and downs with such a huge change in your life but it is worth every bit of it and you can always have a moan about it here!

I remember I would have moments of complete panick when we were organising our house and shipping and it didn't seem quite real until we had a party and handed round a book to make sure we had up-to-date contact info for everyone a week before we left. Seeing the faces of some people who really wanted to be in our position made me realise how lucky we were to be going. If anything now we've done it I'm keen to explore other parts of the world more.

    Hi Kim and Co

Answer to your question - no you dont need to take a driving test providing you have a full driving licence from the UK. What you will need to do is sit down when you get your insurance quote. You are treated as a teen just passing your test regardless of your driving history in the UK and you can shop around till the cows come home to no avail. When you get here go to a local driving licence centre where you hand in your UK licence and are given a temp Ontario one also dont forget to look your best as they take a photo for your licence which takes about three weeks through the post. Have you drove out here before as they are a bit crazy on the QEW highway and country roads - ask Liz. I was used to it with driving in the UK for a living. Dont expect any advice from the licence centre but the one law I do like out here is you can turn right on a red light and at 2, 3 or 4 way junctions you take turns to go which works. Not as many boy racers out here and a note to finish on No MOBILE PHONE USE from December - hands free still ok.
There's a few of us on here living in Canada from the UK so just ask if there's any other things your unsure about. Your kids are in for a treat regarding sport as ours have gone from play station / x box type to snow boarding, ice hockey, basket ball and so on.
When are we to expect you on this side of the pond

    Regards
    Andy + Team Canada

ps first snow of the season last night - only 3 " deep more to come and its minus 3

    Hi Kim

Your going to arrive in one of the coldest months, Febuary is brutal with snow storms so should be plenty of the white stuff. What gets us through Feb is knowing we are 4 to 6 weeks away from a beautiful long summer.
All cars, jeeps and pick ups are greatly reduced out here due to Ford and GM going to the wall if they dont get the bail out and were always alot cheaper than in the UK but give me a euro diesel any day.
Christmas is great but we have only been here for one which we had 3 foot of snow by then. The locals say it sometimes doesnt snow till Jan but its already dumped 3 inches on us since yesterday and down to minus 10 tonight. Dont forget to bring your CD's / DVD's with you as they will work on most players out here (we sold ours - gutted)

    Cheers for now

    Andy + T. Canada
