    Thinking of retiring to Canada

We will be taking early retirement soon and are an active teaching couple looking to move to Canada and wondered if you could let us have your views on any problems associated with living in Canada particularly in terms of house prices, day to day living expenses, medical facilities, banking and accessing UK pensions.
We would be hoping to move to a very rural area and have a small holding style property or anything with a couple of acres of land.

Do we have to be sponsored and are there any restrictions on age.

Also interested in anyones views on retiring to Canada generally.

    Thanks in advance.

Hi schoolsoutforever, welcome to the forum.

It appears that you're not alone in your plans. I read this week that for the second year running, in Natwest International's expat survey, British expats had voted Canada the best country in the world to live in because of it's "natural beauty, *healthcare system and high education standards."

You need to be aware that if you are intending to live in Canada and collect your UK state pension, it will be fixed at the level at which the initial payment is made.

UK Pensions paid in Canada are not subject to annual increases.
