      Hi everyone,

I am a student at UCLAN (UK) and to finish my studies, I am doing a dissertation about culture shock and culture adaptation for expatriates. For this, I need your help because I need you to answer my questionnaire, it is only a few questions and it would be a great help for me.

Depends which part of Thailand you plan to move to; Bangkok, Phuket, Chiang Mai or off the beaten track? I used to work in Phuket and Koh Samui but now I'm retired in the far north-east in a province known as Isaan. If this by any chance interests you, I came across an interesting article by a blogger up this way which sums up rural living beautifully. Jezz: Hi! Essentially retired, married to my wonderful Thai missus, and spend a lot of time on the computer. Then there's the trips to markets, temples and what have you. Also, my wife's family are rice farmers so I drive the 4x4 pickup round the farmland.

Hi Jezz, I've shifted this from Intro,-(I don't know how it is done by the mods!).

I notice from your post above that you've put up a link. I'll take a squizz at that.

Was your work always rural, or did you retire to it? I ask because I wonder how easy it is to adapt?
Clearly the most powerful feeling of them all put you there! Is it tranquil? Or do I have a naive view?

I crave peace and quiet and consideration for others. I have no religious belief, but strongly believe in the power of the human spirit. I have a sense that there is a calmness in Thailand, particularly the rural areas.
Unfortunately, most of us are guilty of stereotypical views, of people/culture. I am trying to get away from urban high density and its inherent problems to something a little more 'spacious', where I don't have to look at the worst side of human nature, and can concentrate on something a tad more positive.

EDIT: Okkkkkkkk! I've read the blog! What was I saying about 'peace and quiet' ?!!

I worked in the holiday industry in Thailand's holiday hotspots before retiring to Isaan. My background pre-Thailand days was in sales and marketing in the UK, Australia, Spain and Portugal.
