    Hello there!

So far and so good! Weather is fabulous, 30 degrees today, feels weird not having the snow and cold any more but definately not complaining. Trying desperately to find some tv i can understand at the moment as Dubai only has one channel the evenings are a little tedious. Weekends are fantastic though, so much to do here!

Hows the UK these days? Are you considering the big move?

    That all sounds fantastic.
    Shame about the TV though.
I would move anywhere that would have me.

I have registered with Gulf Talent and posted my cv giving Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Bahrain as places I would like to find work in alas, I think they want people with a smattering of arabic so I fall at the first hurdle.

I see, trying escape? I dont blame you! We don't speak any arabic and don't find it matters... what work is it that you are looking for? I know that the company my husband is working for is no longer taking on employees in construction because there have been jobs shelved, luckily my husband got on to trump tower which is 3 years contract and won't be shelved. It might be worth trying a few english agencies along side arabic agencies. You could try an agency called Digby Morris, it's who we used and seem fairly good?

    Thanks for that.
    To answer your question.
I'm looking for work in the Intelligence/performance arena's.
I have just applied for a job with the UK Border Agency, a minor role, but if I get it I will get the chance to apply for jobs abroad with them. It's an employers market at the moment though, heck I sat an hour long online exam yesterday as part of a paper sift for a admin role with the audit commission.

Maybe the intelligence sector is different but i dont know to be honest. Have you tried a crash course in arabic? Or ask at consulate what they suggest?

I lived in Dubai in the 80's and raised 4 kids there - a fabulus family life! Best way to meet friends there is to go to some of the more 'expat' areas - theatres are big, and you can usually get to chat to people, sea/beach clubs etc also great. You will find that othere xpats tend to gravitate towrd one another so hang in there! I do have quite a few friends still in Dubai now and we are planning a reunion there soon so if you want to join us, let me know. Incidentally, one of my friends, John Deykin, is on TV in Dubai - does Good Morning Dubai TV?? You can watch that - it has features about expats etc so that might give you something to do as well. I lived in Jebel Ali village, and in Jumeirah too - I believe both are now gone! Aso lived for a while in Golden Sands apartments - are they still there in Dubai? And I worked for a while in Wilkies Wine bar when I first arrived - both at the one in Sharjah (now gone) and one in the Dubai Marine Hotel (where the captains table restaurant was) - I think they are all long gone now too! I have hndreds of photos of Dubai back then! Happy days! trishfisher@sky.com

Hi trish thanks for the response! I live about 5-10 mins outside of Jumeria next to al safa park (might not have been herein the 80's dont know!) Jebel ali still exists there are signs for it but im not sure whats there? Id love to be able to find myself a little part time job to do while my little ones in school but i get the impression they are like rocking horse poop here :(
We dont have a tv subscription here as we have no idea were to get one from and which one to pick i heard theres a few? We have been to some of the brunches but we are a little shy and not many people will just say hello lol maybe we look scary? It would be lovely to come along and say hello sure, any ideas were you having it and when? By the way if you like you could pm me and we can swap email addresses..

Aghude the schools over here vary quite a bit but there is a chain called GEMS schools dotted around and they all seem to be very very good, the waiting lists however are immense and its very wise to put names down before you come over, and id put my name down at a few schools not just the one, one school over here for the greens estate had a waiting list of over 200 children for january start!! On the other hand my daughter goes to gems wellington, the waiting list there for your 4 year old would be around 16 children i think but this can be a bit disproportionate as some of these children will already have places and not informed the school to come off the list. My advice would be to ask around as many as you can, if funds allow come over and spend a long weekend viewing the schools and areas as well.... there is a lot to be seen here that cant be viewed over the internet!
