    Mobile phones whilst driving

At long last, a penalty introduction here for using mobile 'phone whilst driving. Works out to about 160 squid plus car impounded for 30 days. Reckon if police etc. catch everyone who violates this clause Dubai will be financially back on it's feet again. No kidding, every other driver is on their moby which DOES infringe their driving ability and it's pretty scarey. One guy this morning almost side swiped me as he'd drifted over into my lane, so I had to pull over into other lane, fortunately no traffic but lo and behold when I looked back he was on his moby

Not too sure how much the police will enforce this though - am convinced every local will be waived of this offence.

It annoys the crap out of me to be honest, it was made illegal a little while ago but seems to have made absolutely no difference whatsoever. Something I have seen quite often which truly amazes me is when someone is pulling out of a car park or even a driveway on the phone, wouldn't commonsense tell you that it would be sensible to finish the call before pulling out onto the road ? Double the fines and actually enforce it.

I second that Ophidian, it is soooooooooo infuriating. I will NEVER answer mine whilst driving. In fact, when I get in the car, my bag is put on back seat with phone inside so if it rings or texts then TSB, can't do 'owt about it - will have to wait until I've stopped the car.

Quite a few years ago on a motorway a car immediately in front of us veered into the central reservation, bounced off and then hit the barrier on the other side and ended up back in the centre. We were literally first on the scene and ran across to the car to find a young girl slumped over the wheel but on the seat next to her was her mobile phone. I cant say for sure but it certainly pointed towards being mobile related. A nurse was in the car behind us luckily and she took care of the girl.

The crazy drivers who have stunned police

Hampshire Police have revealed they spotted a motorist driving while using a laptop, writing down the answers to a quiz on the radio and drinking coffee all at the same time. Here are some other motorists whose driving left a lot to be desired.

Well the front was still lit and it appeared to have survived unscathed so we must be thankful for small mercies.

That's good. I'd hate to think that an innocent phone might have suffered.

It's always the innocent phone that suffers, my wife once put mine through the washing machine, it was never the same afterwards.
