    Poms leaving Australia in droves

I think of it as an "awakening" and like to think that due (in part) to my fair and balanced advice on the mentioned forum people are realising I was right all along. It makes me feel warm inside knowing that all my work wasn't in vain.

    http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worl...ding-home.html

A new study has revealed that of the 107,000 Britons to arrive in Australia between 2005 and 2010, 60 per cent decided to return home.

I think there are lots of reasons for this to be honest, many realise the propaganda they were fed was inaccurate, others find the country too isolated and insular, for others it comes down to family and familiarity. At the moment it is so hot and sticky here that I cant get anything done outside and even working inside the house is bloody uncomfortable, many don't fully grasp the whole concept of the extreme heat, humidity and other weather conditions that batter this country. For many this country suits them, for many other it doesn't offer enough. Simple.

Its great "if" you like it, but for all those (60%) who have (not so much now to be fair) been made out to be freaks for not thinking Aus is awesome, it gives us a little bit of comfort knowing that we are quite normal after all.

Sorry but DUH, it obviously applies to every country in the world but the thread specifically mentioned Australia.

It seems to show massive insecurity that some find it so hard to believe that many people don't actually want to live here but seriously what's the big deal ? If YOU love it then that is all that matters. I actually love many aspects of Australia but hate just as many others.

If it stated how many of that 60% returned due to disliking Oz and not because they just missed family it would be more helpful to potential migrants IMO.
Also stating how many of that 60% went on to return to Oz might make people think differently as we all know many familys ping pong.

Yeah but how many then go on to go back AGAIN to the UK etc etc etc ? There is only so far you can take these things and honestly who cares ? We are returning to England, we arent being forced to, we are going because we want to. If we were the only family returning it wouldn't make one bit of difference. I'm not sure potential migrants really need to read this as they are doing what they feel is best for them for whatever reason and they will either sink or swim.

I dont think it matters how many return, not everyone who emigrates moves forever...the world is an increasingly small place and mobility amongst the itchy feet brigade is easy. I bet the stats on returnees staying put forever are interesting! Anyone got any, Cal made a valid pointy re the ping pong poms....
