I think there is some truth in that. I'm not sure of all the facts but I know when i returned from Australia with my British passport and needed a doctor I couldn't get to see one. I was in a lot of pain and ended up going to the A+E but they would only prescribe pain killers. I called the NHS complaints people and it was explained that because i was out of the country for a certain amount of time my rights to free health care had been revoked! I had to go private in the end.

AFAIK you have to reside in the UK 6 months of a year to still be entitled to the nhs. The best thing is to keep quiet about where you live, go and see the Dr in the UK every 6 months.
I am sure there is also something with the tax and pensions but not sure of the details.
