Thread: Transporting dogs by yourself?

Hi all
Having moved several times internationally we're fairly used to the dramas of packing, shipping and unpacking a house of 5 people. And our dogs have always come with us. This time we're planning to organise the dog shipping ourselves, having paid extortionate amounts for specialist companies to do it in the past.

Anyone out there shipped their own pets (rather than get a company to do it) and if so, any hints, tips, suggestions or things you've wish you'd known?

Where are you shipping the pets to? If it's to the UK, you'll need to check out the rules and get the timing right with the paperwork.

Thanks for your reply Purps

We're heading from Oz to Danemark - we left UK a few years ago so we know about DEFRA! We know already that quarantine won't be needed; the dogs have up to date pet passports and are up to date with Rabies vaccs.
We were looking more for handy hints and tips on when to submit paperwork, what to tell airlines, what people wished they'd known before they did it etc.
