    Beware the Worm!

This new computer worm is nasty!

FOXNews.com - Computer Virus 'Time Bomb' Could Go Off April 1 - Science News | Science & Technology | Technology News

I know from experience, as it got into my husband's desk top computer on Saturday.
He was going to take it to the Geek Squad at Best Buy, but I found a local guy online who came out on Sunday morning, spent 3 hours stripping it down and repaired it. It cost $100.
    How it got there:
My husband clicked on a pop-up saying he needed to upgrade AVG to 8.5.
It looked exactly like the AVG logo......but it wasn't.

The repair man recommended avast! - Download antivirus software for spyware and virus protection
    so we replaced AVG.
He also gave a few useful tips.

Don't open any emails unless they are trusted by you.
Don't open any links you don't know about.
Change all passwords. Turn your computer off when not in use, not just on standby.

So, the bottom line is......let's be careful out there!!!

    Thanks - You're so kind!
I'm glad the G20 will be over by the time I get there.
Don't want all those disreputable politicians spoiling my holiday!
My son, daughter-in-law and little grandson are meeting me at Gatwick on 11th April, I'll be staying with them for a few days in a nice little village in Surrey.
Then I'm off to Ireland for a few days. Then up to Yorkshire to see my brothers.
I'll be away for a month, so my computer will be shut down.
    No worms!

Dave just checked his computer.....Malware had quarantined and deleted hundreds of corrupt files etc.
Please don't leave it too long.....check that you have your anti-virus, firewall, spybot and all your security programmes working.
You can download the patch from Microsoft too.
    Microsoft Download Center

By the way....that's what my son does...Internet Security...writes the patches to fix these things.
He has also written books on the subject.

    Thanks!
I hope nobody had problems with worms or viruses.

I probably won't be on here much more before I leave.
I'm going to a Celtic Woman concert in Orlando on Saturday, and I've arranged lunch in a local Irish Pub for some of their Forum members who are going. Should be fun!
This will be my 6th CW concert. The fabulous fiddler Máiréad Nesbitt is from my part of Tipperary.
Which reminds me.....bartender! I need a Guinness please......
