    I wish I knew then ....

What I know now .... that living in Canada is not the dream place I thought it would be. Supermarkets are like something out of the 1970's - including the canned music, the fruit and veg are awful and certainly not fresh, there are few laws on sell-by dates, and it's not an offence for them to sell things that are already well past their best. The trollys are like something from the UK back in the dark ages, and everything is full of sugar or salt.

That Canadians are superficially nice - just because they say "have a nice day" at the end of EVERY conversation doesn't make them truly nice people. I have been here two years now, and can count on my thumbs the number of interesting people I have met. I am bored to tears, literally. The service culture is good in restaurants but you won't find that with any of the utility/insurance companies. Getting tradespeople is a joke, that's if they ever turn up. Lost count of the number of times I have stayed in waiting for people who just don't think it's rude to let you know they are running late/not coming at all.

People think it's quite acceptable to ask you "how much did that cost you" if they see you have bought something new.

The TV is dire. The food is dire. The insects are dire.

I wish I could go back to my old life, but my OH loves it here, and I love him, so no contest.

Unfortunately we see this line ' that living in <insert country name> is not the dream place I thought it would be' all too often. What you are saying applies equally to other popular destinations for migrants. The reality of life just doesn't match the dream image people understandably build in their heads. A potential migrant doesn't want to think that things will not only be the same but potentially worse in their new country.
I'm sorry you appear to be in an untenable situation, it is very common unfortunately.
Soon to be back in the undisputed NUMBER 1 country in the world.....ENGLAND.
