I don't miss the cold in the UK but I do miss the thunderstorms. We were in Yosemite a week ago and they had the first snow and rain storm - we loved it - it's nice to see and smell fresh rain after so long!

We had three cyclone storms in a row just after getting here which were pretty cool apart from the fact that because all the power cables are above ground the falling trees took out our power for three days!! We have solar panels on our roof though so plenty of hot water and all the locals piled into the local cafe and bar for hot food so we met some more of our neighbours. We went to our local pub where everything was candlelit and the beer is on old-fashioned pumps so that worked!

Sheena - I don't envy you the very hot summer - even right on the coast here in California it can be in the 90s (up in the hundreds a couple of miles inland) but at least we get the cool Pacific breeze. I guess we'll all get aclimatised eventually!

How hot is it in Oz at the moment, is it time to turn on the Air Con.
Hope all you newbies get used to the summer and 40c + Temperatures.

UK today warm & sunny 17c.

Everything is turning Autumnal here, all the veg leaves got hit by our first light Frost
yesterday and the fruit trees are losing their leaves by the bucket full. Not looking
forward to the coming months one little bit.

    Hi Andy

Same here esp Jan and Feb when we will be in the -20 to -30. At the moment the autumn colours are stunning and its going down to just above freezing at night with sunshine blue skys and high teens during the days.
Our new high ef wood burner will help during the cold months and keep down the gas bill.

    Cheers for now

    Hi Sheena

Quite easy really - we just hibernate lol
They sell all the right clothes here and its a dry cold with lots of sunshine NOT DAMP. Where we are located we get it quite easy compared to some parts of Canada eg -40 is the norm. As I have said before the summers make it all worth while.

I will be thinking of all you guys in Oz + Nz basking boozing and bbqing this Canadian winter

Regards Andy + T C (this smile is me when I open the door from a warm house to outside in Feb)

Andy - it bet it looks gorgeous where you are at the moment! I love the sun but you can't beat crisp morning air in the autumn!

Sheena - last Christmas we were sat outside eating, drinking and watching the sunset - not as hot where you are but still warm enough.

We've got it pretty good here at the moment - we're just getting the autumnal colours (on the higher elevations they've already turned). The nights are cool but not cold - still sleeping with the windows open - and the days are hot but not baking! The fog here in the bay area is starting to creep inland a bit more before burning off in the day but it looks so beautiful as it creeps in - we're surrounded by trees in the foothills of a mountain. We've got wild turkeys flying around and landing on the rooftops, deer ambling around the lanes and bats flying around at dusk.

This is me at the moment :spinny: taking in our little patch of paradise!

I must say the thoughts of a crisp, fresh autumn day sounds wonderful.
I love autumn, so many colours as the leaves start to fall and that lovely smell to the air

    Hi Andy

Will stick some photos on but I doubt they will do justice. We had our first major frost last night but its up to +13 and sunny. Is your mind made up on 6 months in Oz if so when do you hope to go out.

    Cheers for now

    Andy + T C
