Thread: What is it that make us English Superior to the rest?

Is it our accent? (well in the SE anyway)?
Our good manners?
Our Wit?
Our Charm
Our ability to have intelligent conversations on topics other than V8s and "footy"?
Our ability to laugh at ourselves?
Our ability to keep a cool head when all around are losing theirs?
All of the above?
Something else? (please state)

When you say English, I think its down to the multi cultural society you now live in where Britishment has been lost with a wealth of foreign culture that has waterd down the basic value you are trying to descibe

I'm not really sure what makes us superior, just the natural order of things I suppose.

I was reading a thread 'elsewhere' and someone commented on the fact that the reason half the world hates the English is because of our superior attitude. All jokes aside I have travelled quite extensively and have never encountered and hatred of the English in any country I have been to, where does this bizarre belief come from ? I think it says more about the person posting the comment really. If anything the English will go out of their way to put the complete opposite view across.

And welfare, benefits, council flat etc,etc,etc.............

I think when you hear the old "half the world hates the English" chestnut its usually from a someone who has a chip on their shoulder and needs someone to blame for their own downfalls, they usually live up north (ken dodd country or somewhere like that) and tell themselves that they have been hard done by, by those nasty affluent southerners. Of course its all in the mind and they should start to love themselves a bit more.

I was going to mention the chip on the shoulder, I couldn't agree more and it seems very appropriate in this particular case. It's almost as if they want things to be bad in the UK and they want the country to be disliked, it's weird I know.

Thats interesting, just like a few that spend 8+ years in a foriegn country, and then struggle to find a good word to say about it, yeah, chip on the shoulder and all that........weird people about........
