Why Didn't you do your Research!!

..is the patronising mantra bleated out by the smug lot who are (apparently) happy with their lot but TBH i find it all a bit hypocritical and condescending. Lets say for example you are thinking of moving to Australia and you type "moving to Australia" into google and you come across a popular Australia Migration forum and you use this as a basis for your research. Up until a short while ago all you would read was gushing outpourings of how amazing the place was and how friendly the folk where and how it never rains (except nice warm rain) and how the work/life balance is so much better, things so much cheaper,,, bla bla bla.. What then??
My advice would be do some on-line research then live and work the place for say 6 months and try to take in life in urban, suburban and rural areas and see for yourself. A lot of who likes what depends on the individuals persona (people like different things). Don't let anyone or anything tell you what YOU like/don't like.
The people that criticise people for leaving because "Australia is so vast" and "Its so diverse" bla bla bla are talking out of their ars3, Aussie burbs are pretty much carbon copies all over, you have the same rough areas and the same posh areas all over, you have soulless mining towns with no community feel whatsoever (mainly because of the transient aspect of workers coming and going), then you have the suburbs of places like Brisbane and perth which function perfectly but have no edge, where people live in a sterile bubble a lot like the Truman show.
What also puzzles me is why these smug ars3ed poms never practised what they preach. Did they research the options of living in the uk? Did they investigate the thousands of towns, villages, shires.... in the UK? No.. is the answer.

I've got to deck out the loft today and thn take the kid swimming then up ythe pub for a couple of hours so no time to rant further.

You know the type of smug, patronising idiots i'm on about though? There was a bloke on the forum i'm on about that had the same name as me (aldo) who put them in their place until he got banned for telling a few home truths that stuck in some peoples claws. He is sadly missed by 70% of the members there (i'm told) but apparently he's happy giving fair and balanced opinions on another forum now.

There was someone else banned for the same reason, having an opinion that didnt match the opinion of the sheep. It's a bit sad really especially as many of the troublemaking Godzoners have left anyway. I did like that place but it was ridiculously over moderated and very cliquey.

    Hey Aldo!
    How are you?
I just posted a thread asking if "anyone was at a similar chapter in their lives and moving from Australia to Spain in the near future"?
    What response did I get?
It turned into "the Aldo thread" lol lol plus a load of negativity about why "I" wanted to go there etc etc!!!
I totally appreciated the posts and responses, negative or not, after all thats what these forums are about but YEP they do certainly miss you and your opinions as SPAIN = Aldo lol lol
    Hope you're enjoying Blighty
    All the best

All I know is the person I am thinking of was banned because he said it as he saw it and others didn't like it. I do know that the person was never told the exact official reason so he had to come to his own conclusions. ;)

    Hola chica

I moved back to Spain from Australia and in my opinion Southern Spain has more going for it in terms of culture, scenery and general way of life than Australia will ever have. The area you intend to return to looks stunning . Although the rural life isn't my cup of tea I can total understand people that fall in love with the lifestyle. I was watching a film yesterday and Australia was described as "the world largest suburb" which is exactly how i remember it.
I moved back to the uk, "bexley[sidcup]" as the nice member of said forum kindly pointed out because of the economical situation there, not because of anything else, the kids are settled and doing well in a great school here now so I can't see a return at least until they are out of school.
I still have a nice apartment in Nueva Andalucia on Aloha Golf course that i will be spending as much time as i can there.
My advice to you would be wait at least 1 more year before going there, maybe try the UK first and see if you can set some sort of business up that allows you to run it from Spain. Its no secret that it is a buyers market there at the moment so if funds allow maybe get a plot and sit on it for a while.

Good luck and dont let the smugmugs get to you.
