..is the patronising mantra bleated out by the smug lot who are (apparently) happy with their lot but TBH i find it all a bit hypocritical and condescending. Lets say for example you are thinking of moving to Australia and you type "moving to Australia" into google and you come across a popular Australia Migration forum and you use this as a basis for your research. Up until a short while ago all you would read was gushing outpourings of how amazing the place was and how friendly the folk where and how it never rains (except nice warm rain) and how the work/life balance is so much better, things so much cheaper,,, bla bla bla.. What then??
My advice would be do some on-line research then live and work the place for say 6 months and try to take in life in urban, suburban and rural areas and see for yourself. A lot of who likes what depends on the individuals persona (people like different things). Don't let anyone or anything tell you what YOU like/don't like.
The people that criticise people for leaving because "Australia is so vast" and "Its so diverse" bla bla bla are talking out of their ars3, Aussie burbs are pretty much carbon copies all over, you have the same rough areas and the same posh areas all over, you have soulless mining towns with no community feel whatsoever (mainly because of the transient aspect of workers coming and going), then you have the suburbs of places like Brisbane and perth which function perfectly but have no edge, where people live in a sterile bubble a lot like the Truman show.
What also puzzles me is why these smug ars3ed poms never practised what they preach. Did they research the options of living in the uk? Did they investigate the thousands of towns, villages, shires.... in the UK? No.. is the answer.
I've got to deck out the loft today and thn take the kid swimming then up ythe pub for a couple of hours so no time to rant further.

because of the economical situation there, not because of anything else, the kids are settled and doing well in a great school here now so I can't see a return at least until they are out of school.
