    Youth unemployment.

It wont come as news to anyone that the youth of today have got it pretty hard when it comes to finding work, most countries in the world are seeing the numbers increase, sometimes dramatically, with no real solution to be seen. In the UK the rate is around 20% which is similar to Australia, in the US it is around 22%, Spain and incredible 40%. In fact 20% is remarkably the norm. There seems to be no doubt that these figures in no small part contribute to the anti social behaviour and crime in all those countries but what is the answer ? You can't just create a huge number of jobs.
Soon to be back in the undisputed NUMBER 1 country in the world.....ENGLAND.

Employers could start by giving them a go. Read the ads, we want a rubbish collector must have experience. Come on if employers were prepared to train people then it would help. No-one wants to give in this modern world. Just read a thread about children living in poverty in the UK well they are everywhere and its our fault because we have taken away the jobs that a lot of people used to do. Until the world changes its dog eat dog capitalist mentality and has a meld of social and capitalist there will be no change. In Melbourne they want conductors on the trams, goodness, no, we have to employ people, cannot do that, on the other hand who are these dole bludgers and what are they doing. There is no meeting of the ways. My oh was at a meeting a few years ago and they were discussing security, the meeting went on and on and on no solution, oh said well we could get the security guard back, shock horror, oh employ someone, no lets spend millions on a security system that we can update for millions in a few years time.

The chinese at least recognise that all their population needs to work not just the privileged few.

a friend of mine works for a group training company, they have jobs on offer from cabinet making apprenticeships to stores traineships etc, they advertise on seek, the amount of kids that fail to show for interviews or pack the job in after 2-3 weeks, he reckons the benefit system and the lack of parential guidance are a big influence.

Remember the YTS sheme. Basically 18 to 21 yr olds should not recieve a bean from government unless they are in employment or on a government run training scheme contributing to society. Obviously its not QUITE that simple though....I would hate to be a politician...what a job...

Have to agree about the no shows but our society and parenting ways are to blame I believe. Every parent has been told by some expert or other that every child has to be told how good and clever they are, I have not read a post from a parent who does not think that their child is gifted. Now I understand we love our children and to us they are just the bees knees, however gifted and extremely clever, some are but the majority are not, they are just ordinary kids. We have also put children on pedestal, therefore they are growing up with unrealistic expectations. So they will not do the hard yards at all.
