A friend of mine is trying to trace her Italian half-brother..her father served in Italy during the Second World War and, as what usually happened during those turbulent times in 1944, he formed a romantic attachment with a local Italian girl. The result was my friend's half-brother! Her father subsequently moved on, came back to England and married her mother - never seeing his son again.

My friend's father (and mother) both passed on a few years ago - and she is now thinking of trying to trace her half-brother who would be about 66 years old now. Somewhere in Italy, there is a good-looking blond half-English guy and my friend would love to find him!

Where would my friend start looking? Her half-brother could have taken his mother's surname presumably, and not knowing this, he may be difficult to trace. Could she start asking at the British Embassy in Rome? Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.
