    Snakes are looking up.

When I was given the opportunity to become a partner in a long established business in the UK I did jump at the chance but also wondered how the downturn had affected the market. Well the answer seems to be not at all, reptiles continue to be huge business. One bloke I know at a show 2 weeks ago sold £9700 worth of snakes in the 2 days of the show, when you bear in mind that he bred them all himself even when you take out heating costs and food that is a huge profit for 2 days work. It seems that the love of reptiles overrides anything else which is fine by me.

Yes it is extremely interesting and a fantastic opportunity. I have been breeding snakes for pretty much all of the 11 years we have been back in Australia but the market has completely crashed and it just isn't viable.

Thankfully no negative equity in the snake market, it's onwards and upwards

Well actually, no, not even close. The term "most" would be appropriate after 51% or more, the estimate US figure is closer to 28%, whilst in the UK it's only estimated at 7.3%.

Oh come on 7.3% can be considered the majority surely ? In Queensland the figure is 6.3% which is very nearly most.
The largest market for reptile sales used to be the US but apparently Europe has taken over which is good as obviously dealing with Europe is so much easier. Obviously we can't deal with Australia because of the total import ban but the market is so small it doesn't make any difference anyway.
