As most of you older PIO members will prob know ,i have this liver problem and i have always and still do say ,if my liver failed i feel id have a better chance of recieving a donor organ in the uk rather than here ,its scarey the low number of donors in Oz.Not much else will make me upsticks though, other than like Sheens ,returning for a funeral (& to shop at George and Primark)lol

At this moment in time, I can't envisage anything making us go back and stay, Australia feels like home to me (after all it's where the heart is), we're happy and content. We didn't talk about going back, but before we came Nigel (OH) said - Aus is a big place if we don't like where we are we change suburbs or change state "I'm not coming back". Settled in the first place we hit (after the airport) and never looked back. You're all so much like us (without sounding like an appreciation society), but it's nice to know that people like us - who just go with the flow have done well and settled, I feel like i'm in a little club on none moaners and gripers.
Cal, you know i'd give you my liver, but by the time I've finished it won't be any good hun, Aus is looking at an opt out of organ donation (rather than an opt in one), so should you ever need it - there'll be a good chance here/
When I was waiting for my visa I was part of the Visa Diva club with Cal and our friend Lisa - what should we call this little club of settled ex pats?

You know Ali,
its the time especially on the weekend when I can drive down the coast here in Rocky and see Penguin Island and the sea and the rest of it that really makes me appreciate what we have here and achieved here in Oz.
I really have nothing I would want to go back for apart from the parents and family - and they are literally just 24hrs away if urgent. As I discovered last year when the better halfs mum passed away they airline have reasonable rates available for last minute emergencies - which is good although not publicised.
Apart from that I not complaints - quality of life 9/10 here if back in the Uk 5/10 - Probably have more materialist wealth in the Uk and more disposable income but in reality I feel comfortable here the stress and living up to the Jonseys! It does exist I just ignore it!
I just wish the mortgage rate was that of the uk, taxes were less...I could go on![]()
Cant agree with you more Tim ,especially about the dosh,,we have no real 'fun' money here ,it all goes on bills, shopping etc and if i want something i have to save, but i really dont care as we are all much happier with our new life.money isnt everything is it?

I cant imagine any of us going back permanantly however if we did it would be for similar reasons to Cal....Our son (2) has a medical condition and was under the care of Great Ormond Street in London.
There is nothing to say that he will get as sick as he did when he was 3 months old, however if it wasnt for GOSH then he wouldnt be here now and as far as we are concerned if need be and we had time to choose then that is where we would want him to be!!

yes i know where you are coming from ,i used to go to Jimmys hospital ,which is the leading transplant one ,so would have to agree ,i think also for piece of mind as in knowing the place and what to expect.

Hi Deb....
We had planned to go back for a visit next year and we sat down and thought about why we were going back. We worked out that:and we thought what are we going back for???
- my parents will be here by then
- marks mum comes out every 2nd year anyway
- marks dad and stepmum comes out every 2nd year anyway
- My Nanna passed away in 2006
We just thought was it worth the expense?????? I know you cant put a price on family etc but we thought that we wouldnt get anything out of the trip. So we have tentatively planned for when Mark is 50 in 2014 (I didnt tell you that!!!)
- we would only be able to see marks kids when they werent working which may not fit in with when we were there.
- My brother works more hours than I care to think about and I would be struggling to see him
- My aunt and uncle and cousins.....kids are all at school and working and we would see my aunt etc on a Friday night for a curry and a drink.
Hope that I answered the question!!
Nigel wants to make a 50th trip too which will be in 2014 - maybe we could pack them off together and we'll just stay behind.
