Why Return to a Crime ridden impoverished hell hole?

I've just been reading a "moving back to the UK" thread on an other forum and notice that so many people (including me) are returning "home". What I can't understand is why?
My reasons are that at the moment here in my area of Spain things are just too slow. I'm working hard but just can't seem to get ahead - just treading water. I love the county, the people, the vibe, the scenery ect. but i'm getting on now and need to start feathering my nest for the future. I hope in the near future to return here but am exited to have the opportunity to live in England for a while.
    So what made you return?

Well there is no way I would be returning to this place the Daily Mail refers to as the UK but we have no problem with going back to the place we actually know by the same name.
I honestly think some want to believe it is as you describe in your thread title. Weird.

The Uk is full of people that write articles that criticise the country without having ever lived anywhere else. It's small minded mentality. The papers like the Daily Mail are the worst of the lot.
I see and hear them over here too. By "them" I mean normal Brits that had a normal life in the UK, and were never happy but didn't want to work harder.
The ones that think that because they sold their house and moved to a some small town in Florida where the sun shines all the time and where they can now can afford a house with a pool (because the places are dead cheap) that the UK is a hole and the US is brilliant. They go on and on about it like they won the lottery, not that they moved countries.. but worse still, they knock the place they came from, the place that gave them the freedom to move and that had a strong pound that allowed them to move here and buy their wonderful material possessions that they lust after. In case you're wondering, (or I haven't made it obvious enough), those people are basically the type that I don't care to associate with.
The way I look at it is this, if you aren't happy living in the UK then that's fine, move, but there's no need to blame the UK for your own shortcomings or personal problems.

I suppose though when you think of it, if we were happy in the UK in the first place why would we have tried somewhere else?
I don't knock the UK and I really think it's great that people have tried somewhere different, life is too short to be stuck in the same place, there is so much of the world to see before our time comes.
For us, I love Australia, I can't ever say that one day we won't go back to the UK, but for now I'm perfectly happy where I am.

I get where you're comong from but its usually the same people that beat the UK down that bleat on about how those that leave or want to leave (lets say Australia for example) are loosers for not trying hard enough - not being up for the challenge. In which case why didn't they try harder in the UK? The other one is "why not try a different state bla bla bla" I wonder how many different areas of the UK/Europe they tried.

Yes I agree they shouldn't be knocked for giving it a go, although I really do think if it's not because you miss family/UK and it's because you don't like where you are, then another state is a definite option. I have done a lot of driving around Oz well we have driven the full half of the country and it's from that I realised that there are sooooo many nicer placers than Melbourne and it was on of these holidays we stumbled across Cairns and immediately fell in love and knew this is where we wanted to be. As a relocation agent, I have had many people arrive in Melbourne and not be happy but they have moved to Queensland or Perth and have thought it was the best decision ever, these people were on the verge of returning home before they tried somewhere else. Out of all the families I have moved over, I have only ever had two return to the UK, one left after a week in Melbourne so in my opinion they were still in the grieving process/jet lag and the other family returned because she was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer and needed family support, although I am happy to say they are coming back this year and may even be heading our way, not because they didn't like Melbourne but it brought back too many memories from when she was diagnosed.

Im guilty of saying ''Give another state a go'' to someone if they are not happy with where they are. There are a few reasons for this, the main being i have met a few familys who have done so and been happy with their decision, it is also something we said we would do should the need arise. I think the reason we didnt try that in the UK , is we had 30 years to explore and find places and only a few, for us would have been what we wanted, unfortunately job prospects in these areas where not that great in out trades/professions and we also said if we are moving away from friends and family we would like better weather as we like being outdoors.

Cost is another factor,, i have met a few familys who have ping pongged and its cost them a small fortune. So if you think Australia could be for you and arent too sure its sometimes better to try another area rather than tar the entire country with the one brush, so to speak. In my experience this has applied more to familys who want to return after only a few days or weeks of being here, it seems so sad when they have spent so much to get here , yet have seen and expereinced so little ,especially knowing how hard and confusing thoose first few weeks are.

I was very happy in the UK. I was 'content' I'm no happier here just have a nicer life and thats the truth! I love the sun, I love the people, I love the 'culture!' I love the opportunity, I love living here, simple as. I have no desire to move back to the UK, at this stage of my life Australia gives us the things we want as a family......never say never though!

@ cal n kate, I'm not saying trying different states is wrong, i'm just wondering if everyone who is sold the "aussie dream" applied the same theory in the UK or even EU before they left maybe they might save themselves a whole lot of ball ache and money.
