The 8 years I have been here I've seen huge changes. When we moved the house we purchased was huge, for the same amount of money in the UK we would have just managed to buy a two up two down. We aren't mortgage free BUT have a relatively small mortgage. Although saying that its probably 3 x's what our first mortgage was in the UK.
Since our move the UK housing has come down and you no longer get a 2.5 exchange rate.
At the minute I think it's a great time to move back and if we didn't have children it is something we would have considered for a few years before settling back in OZ

The changes as you say Kate have been huge, UK house prices are becoming realistic and here they have gone the other way. Even with kids we reckon it's a great time to move, nothing is forever but for as long as the business keeps thriving and we are having fun we will stay. All we have to hope for is the house selling for roughly what we want.
