    Good unemployment figures.

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-13773692

I always find it amusing when we hear that Australia has an official rate of around 5% and there are apparently jobs everywhere but the UK with a still respectable rate of 7.7% is considered dire with no jobs to be found.

I've been speaking a lot with my mates in the UK lately and not 1 of them is unemployed. Some (that's "some") have had to drop their rates a bit but none are starving to death.

Isn't it interesting how the picture changes between the actual facts and the Daily Mail facts that some seem to regard as real ? If you believed some on here (and elsewhere) everyone is going without a pay rise for 50 years or working 28 hours a day for sixpence a week.
I get the same picture when I talk to friends over there, not much has changed for them really.

Being realistic, the Daily Mail is a negative rag that sells it's papers to a particular reader base. In actual fact it's not much different than any other paper in the way that it targets a set "audience". The Telegraph was always known as a Tory biased paper, just as The Mirror was always a Labour biased one. It's called target based marketing or some such BS. They're all in it to sell papers and make money, end of story.
That's why I prefer the BBC website for news, it tends to have less bias, and more fact.

Yes I agree, it is just frustrating to see people posting links from the gutter press and taking it as gospel. What they 'report' seems very far removed from the real facts but people still believe it.

Agree with you purps but don't be too sure about the BBC not having an agenda.

Still depends where you are in the UK, the north is still bad but its not because of the recent downturn its been like that for yonks as all the manufacturing jobs disappeared people were put on the scrap heap and have remained there. My sister has an allotment and all the guys around her have not worked for over twenty years now or longer just no work for them to do. Yes of course there are people working in the north but a lot work for the government and my niece lost her job recently in a gov funded organisation helping unemployed youth to get work. So now no-one is helping them. As I said this is not new its been like this since the Thatcher days, some people did very very well but there are a lot who have been sidelined for life.

At least the beeb aren't bound by greedy bosses that have shareholders to satisfy, or slanted towards the people that feed their monetary coffers through advertising, like the newspapers are.

Hmm. Well, everyone has their price, Aldo. Maybe yours is just a bit higher than 2 pints of Stella and a pork pie? Say.. 3 pints and 2?
