London voted second best of the world's favoutite cities

Although the full results of a survey won't be revealed until later this week, it has been revealed that New York and London occupy the top two spots in a global poll to identify the world's favourite cities.

The full results of the survey - the largest ever of its kind conducted by Ipsos MORI and covering 18,000 people in 24 countries will be revealed at a conference to be held in London on Wednesday.

In the poll, people were presented with a list of 48 major cities and asked which ones were considered the best to do business in; the best to live in; and the best to visit.

New York and London were the only cities to make the top five in each category.

New York, the overall winner in the poll, was voted the best place to do business in, followed by Abu Dhabi, Hong Kong, Tokyo and London.

Zurich emerged as the favourite place to live, followed by Sydney, London, Paris and New York, while Paris, New York, Rome, London and Sydney got the most votes, in that order, as the best places to visit.

Ben Page, Ipsos MORI chief executive, said, "The citizens of the world have spoken and given a massive vote of confidence in London and the UK.

"Together with positive signs for the UK economy and London generally, and after a brilliant Olympics in 2012, this survey reaffirms London as not only the most important city in Europe, but also affirms Britain continuing to punch above its weight globally."

Add to that the fact that London is the best city in the world for property investment and you've got the London housing bubble explained. Great place but just so expensive.
