Experience Of Selling Property Before Emigrating

      Hello Everyone,

I am new to this forum.

My family and I have decided to emigrate. We are researching the country where we wish to live.

I want to read about expats' experiences in selling their UK property before they emigrated in today's buyers market. What were the challenges? Where did they look for solutions? What was their solution and how did they implement it?

Since I have a property to sell I thought I shall learn from wisdom.

Your personal experiences and any thoughts will be greatly appreciated.

      Regards,

      Rocke

      Hi Rocke

The state of the market in the UK led us to rent out our house, because nothing appears to be selling. We were extremely careful in vetting a suitable tenant and employed the services of a well-respected letting agent.

I guess we've been fortunate in that we're not reliant upon the money tied up in our house to realise our plan to emmigrate.

Hope this is of some assistance.

Where are you planning to go, by the way? We're off to Montana in the USA (eventually, paperwork and the US authorities permitting!!)

      Cheers

      Pete

      Hi Pete,

      Thanks for your feedback.

It is slow to sell a property in this market. The monthly bank reports and the media do not let one to forget it. You are lucky where you do not have to rely upon cash in your property.

We are looking to move to the Middle East. At least the 'credit crunch' did not hit that part of the world and the fuel is cheap. Anyway, we are still researching.

Enjoy Montana and erect the Union Jack for all the British expats!

      Regards,

      Rocke

      Hi Sheena,

Thanks for your feedback. How is Brisbane today?

I am puzzled. What prevented you from accepting offers earlier? Why have you decided against renting out your property? Surely the rental income will contribute towards the mortgage payment?

I am off to work now! I'll catch up with you later!

      Regards,

      Rocke

      Hi Rocke

Back in Feb 2007 our house sold which was 2 weeks before moving to Canada. Its only a year and 1/2 ago and house prices were still going up, but from what I see things have changed big time. We were very fortunate and wish you the best of luck.
