      Hello and where to go?

      Hello everyone,

My husband and I are at the very first stages of investigating emigration. We're currently in a very expensive part of Scotland and are increasingly disappointed about how far our £s don't go towards a diverse and happy lifestyle.

Culturally, we are most attracted to NZ, Australia and Canada. We have kids who are both in their first years of schooling, I would like to keep English as our first language for now.

Family ties to specific places are no longer an issue due to sad losses in recent years.

My husband can take his job with us, he travels already as part of his job and works from home the rest of the time. His employers have indicated they would be more than happy to keep him on as International staff.

I would so appreciate advice please from those of you who have been in the position we're in now. How do we narrow down the search for the right place for us?

We would love to live with a view to some spectacular coastal scenery, access to great schools and a semi-rural lifestyle that would hopefully give us a good spacious home inside and out. It would be nice to have sun in summertime too... LOL

Anyway, all advice very much appreciated. Thx for reading...

Thanks so much guys, this is really useful.

The tip for Google earth is a great idea, we'll definitely do that.

It's not within our means to take a feet on the soil look at each potential place at this stage, but if we can narrow down to being pretty sure about a country then yes, we would go out for a good look around.

Thanks again, and anyone else's view very much appreciated too.
