A New Life in Nova Scotia

    Hi everyone,

We landed in Nova Scotia around 5 weeks ago now and so far we are having a great time. There have been a few ups and downs, but that's part of the adventure.

I would love to be able to help others with the emigration process so if anyone has any questions please get in touch.

Hi and welcome to Britsabroad :)

Hope that everything goes well for you there in NS. Will you be staying there permanently?

Sorry for not replying, but didn't get a notification saying anyone had commented!

The plan is to stay here permanently. We have 2 year work permits and have applied for residency under the Nova Scotia Provincial Nomination Programme. In theory that should come through in August, so fingers crossed.

For us I have to say the move has been pretty painless. Things just seemed to fall into place, although there were definitely some frustrations through the CIC application process.

So far things are going smoothly despite a hospital trip when our son was poorly. Everyone we've met has been very welcoming and friendly and we are settling in no problems.

If anyone is interested I am writing a blog about our experiences, so just let me know and I will give you the address.

Yes thanks, he's fighting fit again now. At least kids bounce back quickly! One thing we didn't realise was that we were eligible for MSI, the provinicial health insurance. We hadn't got anything arranged so were just preparing ourselves for a big bill, which it was - $720!! However, we discovered in the nick of time that as we have 2 year work permits and as long as we stay in the country then we are eligible for the free MSI and they back dated it to the date we landed. That was a big relief and something I'm sure a lot of people don't know.

Re the MSi, that is great to know and will hopefully help some other members if the situation arises, do you know where people can find out more info?

Here is a link to the Nova Scotia MSI:

    http://www.gov.ns.ca/health/msi/

We just had to make a phone call. They then sent us out some forms to fill in, we posted them back and then our MSI cards came shortly after.

    Very easy really!
