Angry Thinking of advertising on the message boards in the forum?

This message concerns everyone that is thinking of advertising on this forum, and those who get tired of reading them.

Please, please remember - that for the protection of our regular rule-abiding forum members, and to enhance the forum for all of us -
advertising your product, paid services, or website for business is considered "spamming", and will not be toterated on the forum message boards.
If you spam advertise, you can expect to see your message or thread deleted and your user account to get a warning.

Also note that forum messages that are duplicated and posted in multiple sections with the sole purpose of advertising a website, servive or company etc, will also be removed and the offender will be issued an infraction against their account.

You may already notice that some threads suddenly seem to disappear when they contain links to apparent money making schemes or advertising, this is because the forum staff delete them to help all of our members.

Spam affects all of us here, because it wastes all of our time reading junk, and in turn makes viewing the messages a less pleasant experience and a less helpful place to those that are looking for something. It also wastes the forum staff's time in having to delete messages and issue warnings or bans (which we don't want to have to do).

If any member notices what they consider to be spam on the message boards, then we would encourage you to please report it via the "report post" icon at the bottom left of that message. The reported post will be reviewed by one of the forum staff as soon as it's possible for them to do so.

Remember everyone, it's your forum and wouldn't exist without you, the members!
So please... feel free to help police it with us, and let's eliminate the spammers.

Persistent rule breaking and/or deliberate "spamming" will result in a temporary infraction, or account being denied future access to the forum.

We realise that sometimes there's a fine line between spamming and legitimate ideas or services which may be of help to people. If you have any doubts as to whether your post may be considered spam, then please contact a moderator first and run the message by them to see whether it will be approved. It's better than being banned or warned. ;)

      Thanks for your cooperation guys!

So does this mean that I absolutely musty NOT ever mention my web site or my books at all ? Not even if somebody seems to show an interest ? For example, sometimes the subject being discussed on a blog might be something that I have written about (I am an author) or that I have just blogged about ? Catherine Broughton

No you can but blatant links to them would not be approprite, joining the forum for the purpose of promoting your interests is discouraged.

What kind of things have you written about? Maybe if they relate to "britsabroad", British expats and wannabe expats then I would think the odd excerpt / paragraph strategically placed in an appropriate thread would be fine.
IMO the forum is lacking "big" posters and good juicy topics for discussion so If you think you can bring that to the table then (I say) go for it, but if someone just wants to post links for his/her own commercial gain and give nothing back then its not really on.

Sometimes members answer cannot be answered correctly because their problems need to be scrutinized deeply. For instance a person ask a what is the cost of living for them, and it's obvious no one can answer that correctly because everyone have different needs and spending habits. SO i have to suggest a link that have a cost of living spreadsheet that suits their lifestyle. Is that link be removed then ?
