Sleepless as I contemplate what the future will bring with it, I think the past and how I've come full circle.

At 17 I went to Iran to visit a friend and ended up staying there, getting married and having kids... until the revolution of '79. That changed my world and that of my family. Most of the family went to the US and have died since. My kids grew up British and not suprisingly dissassociate themselves with Iran. Me ...well Iran was were I grew up and it was a very different place to how it is today.

So as I think about returning there I am filled with apprehension. It will not be as I remember it, it will not be as I left it. What will it be like?
What will I do there?

Over the years since Ive been back in the UK, Ive missed Iran, I even think about it as home. I made a life for myself and my family here but I never quite fitted in again, Is this a problem people like me have in common? I remember feeling homesick for the UK when I was there and homesick for Iran when I was here.

I have no doubt that I can fit in again there as much as a foreign wife can . Language is not a problem, neither culture. So what am I worried about?? I have yet to work that out. I guess another life change is enough.

I don't know if this is appropriate or not.
This has been another beautiful, glorious warm, suuny day -- one of many in the last little while --- as it wa last year, at this time.
Sadly, last year, at this time, my beautiful, caring, loving ,daughter died, six weeks after ther 45th. birthday, after many years of dealing with brain cancer. It was difficult to deal with over the many years -- living from one MRI to the next--- hopeful when there was no change, and devastated when there was. Then, eventually, she was given 2 months to live. --- and that was all she had.
I envy those who can say in an obituary that their loved ones died 'peacefully'. My daughter had years of severe pain, and died in agony, even though she had the maximum allowed dose of morphine.
The hospital personnel were wonderful, kind, and compassionate. My only comfort " she is no longer in pain' People say" Time is a great healer" -- that is a croc. Anyone who says that has not been here. All time does is let you get your act together to enable you to face the world.
Sorry that this is such a downer, but it has helped me.
I remember a title of a movie or a quote, in which , I believe, Jane Fonda starred, -- it was about a marathon dance competition --They Shoot Horses Don't They, i.e. to alleviate the suffering .

I joined this Forum because i had finally decided that i wanted to retire to either New Zealand or Australia.
Talking to members here i finally decided on Oz, but looking into it in more detail, all is not as simple as i thought.
You need alot of savings $500,000 + and another $500,000 + invested in a business account which is much more than i can afford, i suppose there looking for qualified people and not old age pensioners.:twitcy:
What i can do is spend 6 months in Oz and 6 months in the UK which is more than likely what i'll end up doing.
Now all i have to do is find out which part of Oz to spend 6 months in ? i may well end up going from state to state. One thing i do know is that i want to meet some of the great & friendly members that frequent this Forum.
