Morning All,
Looking for a wee bit of guidance and, ideally, first hand experience of users who have gone through the process of moving permanently to the US from the UK. Our trouble at the moment is that we have a whole load of options available but our preference doesn't look particularly feasible.
We are a professional couple (HR Director and Secondary Biology / Chemistry Teacher), both 33. Having visited America annually since 2003, we are convinced that Southern Nevada or Arizona is for us. Living in Scotland, 300+ days of sunshine is properly appealing! We have made the mistake of starting to look at properties and have fallen in love with a couple. We would be looking to buy a property outright, somewhere in the region of $300-350k.
Our problem is that we would prefer to retire to the US somewhere in the next 3-5 years and there doesn't appear to be a visa option to accommodate that. The investment visa looks the very thing to allow entry but we have conflicting reports of needing a minimum of $100k, $250k or $1m - the first two there wouldn't be an issue but having a million free for investment might be too much of a stretch.
We are willing to work for a few years if that facilitates easier entry but genuinely have no idea where to start looking. We plan to increase our property portfolio in the coming few years to a minimum of 10 (we have five at the moment) to provide a retirement income to supplement income from the companies that I will leave my business partners running in the UK.
Any advice would be massively appreciated.
Cheers,
Billy
