Does anyone have a new idea? Being over the age for immigrants, I cannot find a way to return permanently to Australia. I fell in love with the place and the people and everything about it, and I can't see the point of spending the rest of my life anywhere else . People told me I fit right in, and belong, and they wanted me to find a way to stay.
I have even grasped at straws and daydreamed about adopting a couple of grumpy australian teenagers whose parents hate them, because it's legal to stay if your family is australian (joke) But there must be an alternative way
Money is not a problem, I have enough to see me out. Being pretty healthy, I could probably get health insurance too, and I'm not a bad character with a criminal record or anything else against me. There are retirement schemes, but they are not secure permanent residence.
The difficulty is, as you get really into old age, you wouldn't want to be constantly having to leave the country to renew your visa, with permanent uncertainty and insecurity, afraid the rules might change, or some official could have a bad mood, and he could pick up your paperwork when you applied for renewal then could cost you your entire settled home, friends and neighbours and all the life you know, and suddenly on his whim he could just throw you out of the country with nowhere to go at the age of eighty or so.
