Thinking What type of visa do the need initially?

      Hello all,

Due to some recent events in our life we are taking the big step and emigrating to Oz. We are planning next summer '10, and we would like some advice on visas.

We know that it can be a long drawn out process to get the skilled visa, but what we we hoping to do is get the Long stay visa which lasts a year, rent a house and as soon as we get there look for work AND apply for the skilled working visa while we were there, can we do this???? and can the kids go to school too during this time?

I am 40, my partner is 37 and our kids are 8 and 4. My occupation is as a Technical Writer for the Aerospace Industry and is a listed occupation, and we are able to take quite a bit of savings with us too. We are looking at Perth WA, and any advice you can give would be great.

Speak to a migration agent to get up to date options, the rules and regulations change from time to time. If you do come over on a holiday visa try to look for a sponsorship deal and then move to a permanent migration visa.

I am not sure if there is a significant need for Technical Writers in the aerospace industry in Perth so you may have to branch out a little or change your location choice, flexibility is key. You will find it a lot easier to engage with recruitment agencies and discuss sponsorship once you are in Australia. Seek professional advise first before making such a move.
