Thread: My girlfriend is a US citizen, what are the steps to moving there?

I have known my girlfriend for 3 years now and she is a US citizen living in Florida. We know that the easiest way for me to move there is marriage and I have been researching it but I still do not have a clear picture on it, it is all rather confusing.

What are the steps we must take in order for me to move to Florida with her?

This link should help you. The easiest way is to get married first as you will get a green card as soon as you arrive. The alternative is a fiancé visa, where you have to marry within 90 days of moving over. I hope that helps.

You would need to be married or engaged to be married as Pink has said. The process is fairly simple there on in. Marriage is preferable because you would be able to work straight away.

Just remember that if you are applying for a green card on the grounds of marriage there will probably be some requirement to prove a relationship. That means it is probably a good idea to get some documentation together. That could include chat histories, phone bills, letters etc. It just proves you have known one another as long as you say.
