      The British North South Divide

I've been reading and seeing a lot on the news lately about the north south divide. Is it realy as bad as the whinging northerners make out? or4 are they just lazy bludgers?
I'm from the affluent south of England and all my mates seem to be doing fine with all of them bombing about in new cars and paying pittance on there mortgages thanks to the low interest rates ect.. So what up northerners? what are you waiting for? get down south! There southerners are a freindly bunch, they wont mind.
I've never had the urge to go ooop north, all those pit poneys wandering around on cobbled streets eating stale hovis bread and lard. No thats not for me...

Any one living ooop north? is it really that bad?

When I was in the UK last year I really did notice the divide, there seems to be loads more work down South and dare I say people seem more content.

One thing I can say is that the further North you go the friendlier people become
Lived in Norfolk and people wouldn't give you the time of day, spent time in Geordie land and they are a great bunch of people who would go out of their way to help.
I would be interested to know if other areas around the world have a divide. I know Melbourne did, the Western side was all industrial and probably working class and they would call people living on the East side posh snobs.
I think Cairns does as well, you have the Northern Beaches where people say is the affluent area and the Southern part is more undesirable. Not 100% sure but that's my take after only being here a few months.

Yes I have noticed more of an East/West divide here. If you look at Melbourne especially the West is the less desirable area and the same is true of Sydney and Brisbane.
