When we first moved to Australia in 1962 when I was a baby my parents had white shagpile carpet in the lounge, it was about 2 inches thick. I wouldn't have worried about dead skin, you could lose small animals in there. There was also 6 boys under 14.

Unfortunately it never got past the beer mat stage. ;(

No rules in my residence. Although any service men and the likes always remove their shoes before entering threshold but then again they're all Indian and this seems to be an automatic thing for them to do.

      G'day mate!
have to say I couldn't give a XXXX about shoes, so long as there's no dog sh6t on 'em, eh?
as for phones, well if someone's phone rang whilst they were sat around the table, enjoying our hospitality and the convivial nature of our company, I wouldn't ask him to turn it off, no, I'd rather that they leave the conviviality of our company and they would no longer be friends. Is that weird?

I would like to be able to easily shampoo my carpets once a week, after all you mop your floors once a week or more. They are filthy things really, but cosy and a tiles house all through in WInter would not be nice
