Hey guys! I just joined this site and would really love some advice on something I have dreamed about for quite a long time.

I am desperately wanting to immigrate to the United States, and have done since I can remember. As much as I love Britain, it has never seemed like home to me. I feel like an American at heart and I just absolutely adore the country, it's literature and it's people. It's weird being so patriotic for a country that I wasn't born in, but I just love it so much. When I visited Boston last year I didn't want to leave, I wanted to stay and build my life there.

I am about to go to the University of East Anglia to study American and English Literature with a year abroad in an American institution (I am 18 atm). However, I would really like to start making plans now as to how I can maximize my chances of achieving my American dream. My goal is to lecture -- I am hoping to go to an American University following my degree to earn a Masters which will hopefully get me the experience required to lecture at an American institution.

That's my ultimate dream really, to teach at University level in the U.S. in a subject that I adore.

If any of you have some advice please let me know. And also let me know if I am being overly ambitious, and be harsh about it! It's best that I know now so that I can reevaluate my plans and try something different - either way I am determined to become a U.S. Citizen one day! It's my life goal.

Many thanks,

Joe
