i think you mean finger picks, I tend to keep short nails on my left hand and longer on my picking/ strumming fingers ... Can't use a plectrum, they sound too artificial ...

never heard of finger picks , are they good for juniors or could they get in the way ........?

yes they do ... For me, best to keep nails short on left hand gives a better sound and longer on picking hand
i personally dont like them ...

You can get them in plastic and metal, the same for plectrums
