Later in Life - Jobs Abroad.

I thought I would start a thread about those of us who are later in life who would like to live and work in a country other than their own.

Trying to get a job in one's own country, later in life is hard enough but how harder or easier might it be to transfer skills learnt in one country to another country that wants them.

      So lets define some area's.

Later in Life: Has to be between 45 and 65. Because most migration is for under 45's and most people retire at 65.

Abroad: The country you want to move to.

      To kick things off.

I am 52, I am a retired (relativity senior) Police Officer with a bunch of educational qualifications that stood me in good stead for my police career.
I currently live in the UK but would love to live and work in a country that has a better and warmer climate than the one I currently "enjoy".
I am not sure as to what area my skills could/could not transfer to in a different country.

Am I the only one in this boat?

Has anyone in a similar position made a move to a different country even if on a temporary basis.

      Discuss.

Well hopefully we will be out of Vietnam and settled somewhere a little more civilized.
      Ideally Spain/Italy/ maybe southern Caribbean.
I work from home networking for Lee but things are picking up now and he is looking to employ someone full time which means i get to be a lady of leisure and play housey! EVENTUALLY!!

I'm 57 and like you TACD would like somewhere with a warmer climate to retire to.
Not really bothered about work iv'e had more than my fair share of that, i would just love to sit out and relax 9 months of the year in a country that has gauranteed sunshine & warmth.

Iv'e looked into Australia and my best option there, was to spend 6 months in Oz and 6 months elsewhere, retiring full time would cost about $750,000 in oz and thats way out of my league.

Never fancied Spain but Cyprus maybe worth looking into.

I have an apt in Turkey on the Med but it's way way
too hot in the summer reaching 54c in some places, i
should think Cyprus is similar, as i say i will look into it.

      Thanks for the thought TACD.
